Reasons why reading is the best habit

Imagine sitting in the bus on your way back home and it has been stuck in a traffic jam for the past hour. Your phone battery is out of juice and you have nothing else to do. Wouldn’t it be amazing if you had a book or two to accompany you? But that is only fun if you are a habitual reader. Unfortunately, not a lot of us have the habit of reading. Most of us prefer, plugging in earphones and browsing through Facebook. But, today we will talk about the lost habit of reading which not a lot of people, especially youngsters, are fond of and why it is necessary to keep reading every once in a while.

1. Source of knowledge:
The first and foremost reason is but obvious. Books are the goldmines of knowledge which includes academic details, history, finances and everything about our daily life. Books one of the earliest sources of information known to mankind and have transformed over centuries, still doing the same thing that is providing knowledge.
2. Stress Reliever:
Stress and tension are the most common problems among the common man and a large of proportion of people suffering from tension, stress and depression opt for medicinal solutions which include anti-depressants and stress relievers. But, reading is something which can get rid of these problems and lead to a healthy mind. Be it professional tensions or personal problems, reading a good novel can take you into a whole new world, diverting your energies and giving a new insight into life.
3. Brainstorming and mental Stimulation:
“An active mind is a healthy mind.” This saying has been around for ages and is pretty accurate. A mind needs to be stimulated and active in order to be efficient and reading is what keeps your brain cells warmed up and helps them function properly. An hour of reading is equivalent to an hour at the gym for the mind and unlike any other muscle in the body, reading develops the muscles of the mind.
4. Focus and Concentration:
Reading helps the mind improve focus and develop concentration. When one reads for a specific amount of time, the mind gets rid of the distractions and helps focus only on the words. Reading prevents the mind from multitasking since all the focus is on the story or the passage which leads to a healthier mind.
5. Vocabulary and writing skills
Reading also helps you learn new words and feed it into your mind’s dictionary. Whenever you come across new words in books, they are involuntary stored in your mind’s dictionary and overtime you expand vocabulary. Apart from this, reading affects your writing skills and helps you develop a certain style of writing which is a necessity in today’s professional world. A man who can play with words can play with the world.

So, put on your reading boots and pick up a book to start reading! If you’re already a reader, Kudos!
