Of all the fields open for students, engineering is considered to be financially rewarding as well as interesting. Seeking innovation, attacking challenges, solving problems and improving the quality of life— these are the driving forces for Engineers. From space stations to Microsystems, the potential for innovative engineering is endless. With so much to explore, discover and achieve, it becomes all the more essential to seek admission in the best college, which would further provide a secured future.

If you are wondering how to find out the best engineering college, then be known that there are few factors, which would help you take an informed decision. Don’t be one of those who judge a college on the basis of just where everyone is going to, but, consider its ranking based on the level of excellence that they execute. Begin by ascertaining the awards and certifications that the college possesses. It is imperative that a college should be certified by an authority approved by the government, as that is the biggest indication of the highest standard of management and functioning being followed by the college. This also ensures that all the courses offered by the college are duly certified and approved, thereby giving you an edge over others.

Another important factor is that the faculty and management of the college should be well qualified and experienced in their field, thereby offering you nothing less than best of education, training and skills. Under the guidance of such faculty students are taught how to bring their ideas to fruition, not just by enhancing technical skills, but by teaching how to foster innovation. Along with this the infrastructure should be well equipped with all the latest technology so that you are trained and educated as per the 21st century wavelength. The college should focus on the overall development of a student by encouraging them in the path of academic excellence, while laying emphasis on soft skills, English language classes, co-curricular and extracurricular activities.

The major factor that would help you finalize on an engineering college is the placement opportunities offered by the college. The college that attracts the blue chip companies and has most of the students placed in such companies is surely going to give you a competitive edge over others. The best engineering colleges will not only offer you a range of possible career specialties, but they will also offer helpful academic advice and high quality instruction. Every educational institution strives to offer the best facilities so that their students become all round individuals in future. What separate the wheat from the chaff are the available facilities, college location, research activities, faculty qualification and placement assistance.

Although times have changed now and there is all kind of information available online, the decision making still remains difficult as without complete research and knowledge one can risk their future. As the choice defines the level of learning and success in one’s life, children need to choose the best college for the right reasons.

A lot of owing to their young age and ignorance, do not lay emphasis on this decision and opt for the same college as their friends. They do not realize that apart from forming long term friendships in their college, they spend the most important learning and evolving years of their life there. College plays a very crucial role in shaping up a child’s career and life. Reason being, utmost importance should be given to choosing which college to attend, based on various factors like reputation, courses offered, faculty, fee structure, accreditation and placement record.

What builds up the confusion is that there are many colleges in India, which offer satisfactory academic and professional excellence. But  among the huge list of these colleges, you need to determine the one that seems to be the best. One smart way to do that is to read about the feedback of the college and ascertain the placement record that the college has maintained over time. Brands that the college has tie ups with, number of successfully placed students and placement drives conducted at the campus are some of the factors, which influence the eminence of a college. An engineering college with the best placements becomes the pathway to success for any student.

Among the best colleges of Engineering in Punjab is Amritsar College of Engineering and Technology (ACET). Established in the year 2002, ACET has been granted an autonomous status by University Grants Commission and is first self-financed institute of Punjab having obtained NBA & NAAC accreditations. ACET is the most reputed college with considerably good Placement Record by getting every interested student placed.

Why do colleges seek autonomy

Benjamin Franklin had rightly said that “ An investment in knowledge pays the best interest ”. The time and amount that you put in acquiring education helps in shaping a bright future for you.  This is why it is of utmost importance to conduct extensive research and give considerate thought while zeroing on an educational institute for pursuing higher studies. As a matter of fact, each institute differs from the other based on varied parameters, which are given due consideration while taking the major decision of opting for a college. However, there are few prerequisites that one needs to be certain of while choosing an education institute or university for gaining higher education.

One such requisite, which needs to be fulfilled is that the college should be accredited. Knowing that a college has an accreditation would ensure that it functions in a transparent manner, keeping in mind the standards set by an education community, which evaluates the credibility of the courses offered by all educational institutes in the country. Procuring a degree from an accredited college would open endless avenues for you as not only are they accepted worldwide as reputable institutions, but, also hold more worth than the ones received from non-accredited colleges. A lot of companies and institutions do not even consider the value of a degree obtained from a non-accredited college owing to the absence of any particular set of guidelines chalked out for their operations.

This is why it is advisable to take admission in a college that has received an autonomous status. Autonomy of a college indicates a bagful of advantages, which are:
  • An autonomous college operates in a discrete manner, without following the age old traditional approach of educating students. This assures that quality education, which is in sync with the present times is imparted to the students.
  • Autonomous colleges are accomplished with the necessary services, updated syllabus, modern equipment and state-of-the-art infrastructure, which supports the overall development of the students.
  • The guidelines and standards set by the educational community centralizes the working and administration of an autonomous college, which avoids even the minutest risk of mismanagement.
  • Autonomous colleges are keen on matching step to step with the state of education in the present times. To stay technologically and educationally advanced, they implement and absorb better and fairer evaluation, to stay ahead of competition and get things running smoothly.
  • Autonomous colleges in India as compared to the non-autonomous ones enjoy a superiority and prestige, which is reflected through the preference given by employers to students who pass out from autonomous colleges.

These are some of the major advantages that a student studying from an autonomous colleges receives. Once you secure a position for a degree course in an autonomous college, you get a step closer to lifelong success and learning.

Why College Accreditation Matters

Gone are the times, when there were just a few medium of education. With most of the knowledge being imparted at home, children either went to religious foundations or few available educational institutions. But in this new era, things have changed drastically. The number of educational institutions that impart training, learning and coaching to students are increasing with every second. India in today’s time has more than 300 universities that include central, state, deemed and private universities and above 2000 private institutions.

With such a neck to neck competition and ever growing list of colleges, how do you ascertain that a college is legitimate and offers certified courses? The answer to this is through accreditation. Accreditation is basically a kind of formal recognition bestowed on an education institution or to a type of degree program offered by any external independent authorized agency, which is established on the basis of a documented and well-defined criteria and standards. Once the accreditation is given to a college and the degree courses, it serves as a stamp of authentication that helps students and parents judge the worth of that college.

There are two accrediting agencies in India:

1. NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council, Bangalore)
2. NBA (National Board of Accreditation, New Delhi)

These two autonomous accreditation bodies are working under University Grants Commission (UGC) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) respectively. These bodies were setup with aim to regulate the functioning of colleges and maintain high standard of education in India. Having been working now for many years now, they are continuing with that aim and living up to the expectations that people have with them. A strict procedure is setup and followed by them during the process of granting accreditation to any colleges. Only when a college fares well on all the quality parameters set up by them, the accreditation is imparted to it.

At a time when Indian institutions are trying to compete with the rest of the world to come at par with the best institutions across the globe, accreditation becomes an important element to show the quality standards being maintained here. Not only is that, institutions which are accredited are more favoured by employers, as they are well equipped and also the institution itself can assess, evaluate and improve their quality once they get accredited.

ACET, Amritsar is one such prestigious institution that is the first self-financed institute of  Punjab having obtained NBA & NAAC accreditations. In a short span of 13 years, the college has gained name and fame and has become 1st status, NBA and NAAC accreditation. It has been granted an autonomous status by University Grants Commission, New Delhi, making it the first autonomous engineering institute in North India to have Autonomous
